How can we help?
Answers to common questions, and a real person at the other end of the email address below.
Getting started
How do I add my music?
Open Settings › Music Folders. Add Music Folder picks a whole folder in Files, from iCloud Drive or another provider; Add Songs picks single songs. You can also open a song from Files or a share sheet with Open in Sonevia.
Sonevia reads your music where it is and rescans it each time the app opens. Removing a folder from Sonevia never deletes its files.
Where do I put music that's only on my device?
Copy it into Sonevia's own folder: in the Files app, On My iPhone (or On My iPad) › Sonevia, or in Finder on a Mac while your device is connected. Then tap Use Sonevia's Folder in Music Folders.
Files shows only the folders that apps share, so music inside another app's private storage can't be reached. Copy it to Sonevia's folder instead.
Which formats does Sonevia play?
FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, CAF, MP3, AAC and M4A, Ogg Vorbis, Opus, WMA and DSD (DSF and DFF, played as PCM). See Formats.
Which devices does Sonevia run on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 18.4 or later, and Macs with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later. The Apple Watch remote needs watchOS 11 or later, and CarPlay works in any CarPlay car. One Pro purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Music servers
Which servers are supported?
Navidrome and other OpenSubsonic servers, Jellyfin, Emby and Plex Media Server, with Sonevia Pro. Add one in Settings › Server; you can add more than one.
My server is at home and doesn't use HTTPS.
Type its address with http://, including the port, for example http://192.168.1.20:4533. Sonevia warns you before signing in to a server whose traffic isn't encrypted. When it asks for Local Network access, allow it; if you declined, turn it on in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security › Local Network › Sonevia.
An address that only works at home won't work away from it. Use your server's public HTTPS address when you're out.
How do I sign in to Plex?
Choose Sign In with Plex to sign in on Plex's own page; Sonevia never sees your Plex password. Or type your server's address and a Plex token.
Are my favourites, ratings and playlists synced?
Yes, with servers that support them. Playlists sync both ways, and a playlist made in Sonevia can be copied to a server.
Sound, the Audio Lab and headphones
How do I set up an EQ for my headphones?
In the Equalizer, Find Your Headphones searches thousands of corrections from the AutoEq project and turns the one you pick into a profile. Each output (AirPods, wired headphones, the speaker, a USB DAC) remembers its own profile, so Sonevia switches when you do. These are Pro features; the ten-band EQ and its presets are Free.
Can I bring an EQ from another app?
Yes. Sonevia imports and exports Equalizer APO's ParametricEQ.txt, the format AutoEq and many tools use.
What does the Audio Lab show?
The playing song's path: its source and format, the decoder, what Sonevia changes (EQ, resampling, gain), the output and its known limits, and a Loudness card with loudness, true peak and dynamic range.
Why doesn't the EQ change Apple Music songs?
Apple Music songs are played by Apple's own player, so Sonevia's EQ and crossfade don't reach them, and Apple plays them at its own level. To keep your own songs from sounding louder next to them, turn on Sound Check › Track and Match Apple Music's Level.
Offline listening and downloads
How do I listen without a connection?
Download songs, albums or playlists from your server with the Download button, or turn on Automatic Downloads for your liked songs, most played and chosen playlists. Library › Downloads shows what's saved and the space it uses. Music on your device always plays offline.
Will downloads use my cellular data?
Automatic downloads wait for Wi-Fi unless you allow cellular. Streaming quality is set separately for Wi-Fi and cellular.
Sonevia Pro and purchases
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Lifetime Pro is a single in-app purchase. The price shown in the app is the App Store's price for your country or region.
How does the free trial work?
The seven-day trial unlocks every Pro feature. Nothing renews and nothing is charged. When it ends, Pro features lock again; your music and settings stay. It can be taken once per Apple Account.
How do I restore Pro on a new device?
Settings › Sonevia Pro › Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with.
How do I ask for a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Use reportaproblem.apple.com.
Does Pro include Apple Music?
No. Sonevia can play Apple Music with your own Apple Music subscription; Pro unlocks Sonevia's Apple Music features, not the subscription.
Troubleshooting
A song won't play.
Check that its format is supported. 32-bit integer FLAC isn't. With Pro, Library Health › Won't Play lists songs that can't play and why. For a server song, check you're connected, or download it first.
My music doesn't appear in the library.
Reopen Sonevia to rescan. If the folder is inside another app's private storage, Files can't share it: copy the music to Sonevia's own folder instead. If a folder moved, relink it in Music Folders.
Sonevia can't reach my server.
Check the address, including http:// or https:// and the port, and that the server is running. For a server at home, allow Local Network access (see Music servers). Sonevia retries a brief blip once, then offers Try Again.
Music stops on a weak signal.
The look-ahead cache downloads the next songs in the queue as you listen. For places without signal, download the music first, or lower the cellular streaming quality.
Lyrics are missing.
Lyrics come from the song's file, your server or LRCLIB. Turn on Find Lyrics Online in Settings › Lyrics & Info to look them up. With Pro, you can import a .lrc file or paste your own.
